New York model Kimbra Hickey
was chosen to portray the now iconic
"hands and apple" cover of the bestselling Twilight novel in
September 2004, after her agent sent her to an audition with
photographer Roger Hagadone. Perhaps it was her small hands—the
smallest of any hand model in the city at that time—that led to her
selection. Or, maybe it was her resemblance to Twilight heroine
Bella Swan. All Hagadone has said about the decision to cast Kimbra
was, "it just felt right".
While a host of talented and attractive actors have brought the novel to life through a series of major motion pictures, Kimbra will always be the only living icon of the books—other than Stephenie Meyer herself. As Kellan Lutz, who stars as Emmett Cullen in the film series, recently told her at a convention, "There is not an actor in Hollywood who has done what you have done."
The Twilight cover was far from Kimbra's first foray into modeling. The lovely "parts" model (hands, feet, legs) has been featured on the cover of New York Magazine and Time Out New York. She has also modeled for Cosmo Girl, Seventeen, Avon, Target, Macys, Maybelline, Aigner, Clarks Shoes, Stuart Weitzman, and more! New York Magazine named her one of the Top Ten Reasons to Love New York in 2007.
Over the summer of 2009, Kimbra began making appearances at Twilight tours and conventions around the nation. She attended Eyecon in Orlando in May and Twi-Tour in Atlanta and Minneapolis in July. Other appearances scheduled for 2009 included TwiCon in Dallas on July 30-August 2, Twi-Tour in New Jersey on August 28-30, and Eyecon in Orlando on September 25-27.
Kimbra will be making many more convention appearances in 2011 so keep an eye out as we add new dates.
